Justice carried out searches at the home of businessman Mauricio Novelli and at the residence of Sergio Morales, who recently resigned from his position in the Government, as part of the investigation into the cryptocurrency $LIBRA. These actions were ordered by prosecutor Eduardo Taiano, under the supervision of Judge MarĂa Servini.
The procedure took place on Thursday and included the house and offices of Tech Forum, led by Novelli. Searches were also conducted at Morales' home, located in the City of Buenos Aires. During the operations, phones and computers were seized, according to judicial sources.
The day after the searches, Javier Milei's Government confirmed Morales' resignation from his position as an advisor on crypto assets for the National Securities Commission (CNV). These judicial actions took place three weeks after the scandal related to the meme coin that caused significant losses for investors.
Amid the controversy, President Milei mentioned the cryptocurrency $LIBRA on social media, which led to a rapid increase in its value followed by a considerable drop. Despite this, Milei stated he had not promoted the cryptocurrency and declared that he was not aware of specific details about it.
Novelli, linked to the President and to the promoters of $LIBRA, was subjected to the search to collect evidence. Furthermore, the scandal arising from this situation has sparked an investigation in the United States.
